Mamma called the doctor and the doctor said: American Girl Doll Care Blog Series 2014

What do you do when you have a doll repair emergency?  Accidents are bound to happen over time with your American Girl Doll. Perhaps your child accidentally paints the dolls nails, or her hair becomes frizzy, or a limb becomes loose or detached.  Believe it or not American Girl has a Special Doll Hospital.  Dolls can be 'admitted' by bringing the doll into an American Girl Place, which are stores located all across the United States.  Another option is for you to ship the doll in from home (either the US or Canada) after printing out a US form or Canadian shipped form from the website.  The American Girl website even has a step by step guide on how to admit your doll.

Hospital visits include such things as a simple 'wellness check', to new body parts, reattachment of head or limbs, re stringing, eye replacement, to ear piercing, hearing aids, or a new doll without hair that you can buy wigs for.  Once the doll is admitted to the Doll Hospital, a special team of doll doctors handle her with care, and give her a free full body 'wellness check'.  They decide on a 'treatment' plan based on her 'injuries'.  Basic care treatment includes hair brushing, and skin cleaning.  When your doll is 'discharged' you will receive a certificate of Good Health, Get Well Card, Doll Hospital gown, socks and even their own Doll Hospital ID bracelet.

The website states they will fix your doll and return her on average within three weeks for most stays.  The order form lists the current 2014 repair price range for 18" Dolls is $14.00 to $44.00.  Additional costs for ear piercing or hearing aids are $14.00/each.  Prices are lower for the Bitty Baby & Bitty Twins $16.00-$22.00.  It is important to note doll parts are NOT returned when they are replaced through surgery. Dolls must be sent in without clothing or accessories in a plain box with the admission form and payment.  Limited Edition Dolls, such as Girls of the Year or retired dolls cost the same for repairs, and their specialized parts will be replaced.  The Doll hospital will repair factory defects such as eyelash retraction, silver eye, bubble eye or staining from a American Girl product for free.

The American Girl Doll Place with it's special Doll Hospital was recently featured by Conan O'Brien on his late night show.  If you haven't seen it yet, watch it here as he "shares a awkward, boozy lunch" with his very own American Girl Doll, and takes a tour.  Perhaps American Girl could consider Conan's comment and sell some health insurance for their dolls?
